After just a few minutes, you can see the world in a new light with clear vision. Just think about what life would be like without the hassle of worrying where you put your glasses, or the daily routine of cleaning and putting in contacts. And just think of the money you’ll save over your lifetime when you don’t have to order new glasses and lenses. The possibilities are endless! If you’re an active person, you’ll no longer have to worry about your eyes when you’re running, swimming, or playing sports.
Are You a Candidate For Laser Eye Surgery? - When considering LASIK, the first question you should ask is “Am I a Good Candidate?” Although most patients make excellent candidates, you will need to visit a LASIK doctor for a thorough eye exam and review of your eye history. Your doctor will take into account your eye health, the curvature and thickness of the cornea, the amount of refractive error, and your general overall health to predict the outcome of LASIK surgery.
How To Choose a Laser Eye Doctor - The key to an amazing LASIK outcome lies in the provider – we’ve done the research for you so all you have to do is click on your state. Choosing a LASIK surgeon with proven results has never been easier. For peace of mind and to make sure you are fully informed before your procedure, we’ve compiled a list of questions that may help make your LASIK decision easier. If you are not completely comfortable with the surgeon and staff after your initial consultation, we suggest visiting a few providers to choose the one that is right for you.
Conductive Keratoplasty - Conductive Keratoplasty, or CK, is a new, minimally invasive procedure that uses low energy radio frequency light to treat farsightedness and presbyopia. To correct presbyopia and create monovision in people age 45 and older, one eye is adjusted for near vision and the other eye for distance vision. During the CK procedure, the surgeon uses the light beams to increase the curvature of the cornea, improving vision almost immediately.
Crystalens Procedure - Natural Lens Replacement, also known as Crystalens, is an FDA procedure where the patient’s lens is removed and replaced with a clear plastic lens that allows him or her to focus more accurately. Crystalens works like the eye’s natural lens to allow patients to see images seamlessly that are near (inside 16 inches), intermediate (between 16 and 36 inches) and distant (36 inches and beyond) without glasses. Usually, the eye is adjusted to see more clearly at distance, though the eye can be adjusted to see at near if desired. Each of these lenses has limitations, including halos and limited near or midrange vision.

Advantages of EpiLASIK - EpiLASIK is an innovative new procedure designed to restore natural vision with the help of an epikeratome. The surgeon uses an epikeratome, a separator that creates an epithelial sheet, to make a thin flap in the epithelium. The Wavefront based excimer laser beam is then applied under the epithelial flap to successfully correct refractive errors and restore clear vision.
Financing LASIK - All of our LASIK providers offer multiple financing options. Depending on your financial needs, you will be able to work with a financial coordinator to choose the best plan for your budget. Among the options presented are payment in cash, credit card, check, debit card, third-party financing, and in house financing. Our LASIK doctors are very flexible and want to make sure cost doesn’t stand in the way of clear vision.
Hansatome Microkeratome Procedure - The Hansatome™ microkeratome is chosen by LASIK professionals because of its ability to consistently create uniform corneal flaps. The Hansatome microkeratome is an automated, precise tool which effectively minimizes any wrinkling of the flap by lid movements. During the LASIK procedure, Hansatome’s gentle suction ring creates suction gradually, minimizing discomfort to the patient. Once the perfect flap is created, the cornea is ready to be treated by the laser.
Ladar Vision - The LADARVision excimer laser is a small spot, or "flying spot" laser system for the correction of nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. The LADARVision system uses a very small laser beam of less than 1 mm to shape the cornea, allowing for treatment of a large range of eye refractive problems.
Lasek - Laser Epithelial Keratomileusis, or LASEK, is a procedure that is designed to correct corneal shape. During LASEK, the surgeon loosens the edges of the epithelial cells with alcohol. The top layer of the cornea is then lifted and the laser is applied to the cornea. After the laser corrects the cornea, the cell layer is repositioned and a soft contact lens is placed over the eye to help keep the cells in place while it heals. LASEK is used mostly for people with thin or flat corneas who are poor candidates for LASIK.
LASIK Procedure - The goal of LASIK is to decrease your dependence on corrective lenses. In people with perfect natural vision, light that passes through the cornea and the lens will come to a perfect focus on the retina. In some people, light comes to a focus in front of the retina. In other people, the light isn't focused strongly enough. During the LASIK procedure, the doctor uses a precise laser to reshape the cornea of the eye in order to bring the light into focus.
LASIK Technology - Since the FDA approval of LASIK in 1998, incredible breakthroughs in technology have been discovered to improve the consistency of great results and minimize the risks of LASIK. With the introduction of state-of-the-art equipment, LASIK is now more accurate, predictable and safer than ever before. Ongoing research and development continues to improve the quality of LASIK results available to consumers.
LASIK Wavefront - Custom LASIK represents the very latest in LASIK technology and a growing number of doctors throughout the country are now offering this option to patients. Custom LASIK is based upon the very unique visual characteristics of your eye. Up until now, with glasses, contacts and conventional corrections were quite similar for each type of prescription.
Refractive Procedures - After a thorough eye evaluation and review of your eye history, some patients will be told they are not ideal candidates for LASIK. In this case, there may be other refractive options available to help you attain clearer vision.
PRK - PRK is a laser eye surgery that treats nearsightedness, mild to moderate farsightedness and astigmatism by flattening the center of the cornea with cool beams of ultraviolet light. Based on the patient’s individual refraction, the computer generates an accommodating amount of laser light to remove a calculated amount of corneal tissue. The surgeon uses an excimer laser to remove tissue from the surface of the cornea, allowing the cornea to focus light correctly. For nearsighted people, the doctor will perform PRK to flatten the too-steep cornea. For farsighted people, the doctor will use the laser to create a steeper cornea. Following PRK, vision begins to improve around three days following the treatment and steadily improves.
